Firstly to all our followers we – the vagabond family would like to wish you all the best for the new year of 2021.
While we were here we were lucky enough to be part of the awesome Oamaru New Years street party which our dear friend Hailey organized, so with a big team effort of setting up, which all went smoothly and in good time, the party was set to go off with a bang – well at midnight anyway with poppers a smoke.
There was amazing acrobats, great music, yummy street foods, kids corner of face painting, karaoke and a littlies disco. There was something for everyone so all were happy and contented. This event was nestled in the square, surrounded by 18 and 19th century commercial buildings of limestone, just set back from the port, feeling like the perfect setting for such an event. As the party came to an end, 2020 passed, and 2021 arrived and the clearing had started, now with quite empty streets the little blue penguins moved in. There sweetest little things, waddling around under all the vehicles as we all pack up to go home.
In a place like this I wish I could time travel, and see all the action of the busy port, as the ships pulled in and out to load with grain. The original train tracks are still there from the days that the steam train would also be bring goods to a through the port. There’s so much history and charm about the place, I love it.
By the way, soon I’ll add a few more pix of new years that I just can’t quite find right now ! also don’t forget you can also follow us on Instagram for more regular up updates.
