Stunning estuary at Slop point.

This has got to be our favorite spot yet. We've been here for a few days now which has given us time to fully absorb all it's natural beauty - well in-between the usual day to day stuff we've managed to kick back and relax. We've mainly focused on school work with the girls and exploring the estuary and surrounding area. Lola's also had time to get set up outside and do some cooking - so check out her blog. I couldn't resist a dip [...]

Wipapa point and light house

Another beauty land mark here on the wild southern coastline. A grand lighthouse on Wipapa point to keep the ships safe. We rock pooled on the beach bellow and found a little crab that truly fascinated Isla, leaving her entertained and rock pooling for ages. Allowing a little freedom to relax with Lola and search for the prettiest little stones on the beach, examining the colors and shapes. I feel the southern air is freshest, and the ocean much cooler too! It makes a change [...]

Fortrose / catlins

Last night we stayed at a beachside camp spot called Fortrose, which is right at the southern end of New Zealand. Its so beautifully rugged and very remote, as if times stood still. This morning we awoke to nothing but seaside bird life, - well for a moment, and then crazy kids dilemmas ! We now feel like we've found the most peaceful part of NZ with little changed in years but the tides, and a few batches here and there. While here we visited [...]

Friendly friends in Invercargill

We spent a weekend in Invercargull visiting new friends of ours who made us feel most welcome. We enjoy spending just a bit more than a day or two in one place, so able to sort a few things, relax, and really connect with whoever we're with, or wherever we are. Penny has a very sweet little project going in her garden which very much inspired me. Penny dose a wonderful job of growing a great array of flowers to creating beautiful arrangements for selling [...]

Rainy days in the bus

I just thought it an idea to share the rainy days too ! Well life in a bus is greatly affected by the weather - we do like being close to nature but the wet weather really dose put a damper on things - especially when living in a small space with kids ! We're into our 4th day of pretty stormy wet weather right now and it hasn't brocken a bit. At first we found it quite cozy and felt that it makes a [...]

Te Anau float plane over the Fiordland.

We're were walking along the waterfront at Te Anau where we saw a float plane moored off. We just couldn't resist a flight over the Fiordland. It was a beautifully sunny clear day, so we booked our flight, and soon with great excitement we're boarding the plain. The girls had never been on a small aircraft and we'd also not been on float plain before. We decided that as we were flying near water the risks were low ! We boarded the plain on the [...]

Mavora lake

Well a lot of locals call this there favorite spot of all. Its well off the beaten track towards the west coast with almost an hour of gravel road to get there. Well we've been a bit invaded with road dust throughout our tailor but still well worth the drive. We set up camp next to our friends and all there other mates - loads of kids, dogs and water toys so we all had a ball. weather can be touch n go down here, [...]

Queenstown Skyline – Up in the Gondola and down on the Luge.

Finding ourselves bouncing back to Queenstown again we felt we couldn't leave without check out Skyline Queenstown - up in the  gondola to really take in the spectacular views over Queenstown and the surrounding area of lakeside and mountaintops. Then we made the most of being up there and got ourselves a  family pass of 14 luge rides for a bit of a laugh. There fun little carts, driven only by gravity, so there's no noise or fumes ! and so easy to drive especially [...]

Kingston lakeside camp and Te Anau

After a couple of days in Queenstown we headed south again to Kingston. Found ourselves another awesome free camp spot right on the lakeside. Surrounded by towering mountains and fringed by crystal clear deep clear waters, we could easily stayed there for much longer. We swam a lot to cool off and enjoyed a picnic dinner on the beach that night. Then the next day moved on to Te Anau where we camped one night at a park over property where we were given some [...]
